No, we have no trees "right at a window." (No trees at all, actually, other than a few hardy palms, here on the barrier island.)  And yes, rare tornadoes can happen, as can winter fronts with some wind. But one or both of those things can occur just about anywhere in the country, whereas all 117 million U.S. households don't have hurricane shutters.  Well, neither do I, on my upper story trapezoids, six months of the year.  We like to enjoy the non-distorted high view for a change, plus it gives us a chance to clean the Lexan shutters once a year.   Main level windows have permanently attached accordion shutters, not that we ever close them except during tropical cyclone events -- and those are all I was talking about in the first place, now that it's early December with 70-degree Gulf water temps.   Get it, guys?
