I don't know what kind of storm a big ship like that could withstand. But with big storms you can get massive waves, like Hurricane Ivan in 2004:

That's what I think of when I think of these storms. You might have some very significant waves, well beyond what is forecast. That is why it is better to stay out of these storms.

Cruise ships have always seemed a bit odd to me. It's stuff you can do on land. It's like an airplane, except an airplane gets you to a destination faster so you don't need to do other stuff on the plane like a cruise ship. I know stuff is all within walking distance on a ship, but there are lot of places on land that you go on vacation to and be really close to entertainment. If I wanted to go to some island in the Caribbean, why spend a short time at the destination on a vacation cruise when you can fly there and spend many more days enjoying it. I guess because I live in an area with so much to do, it just doesn't seem to make sense to me. If someone lived in a small town, maybe the idea of a cruise ship would appeal much more to them. Plus, I only go to the beach every few years, so being in the middle of the ocean doesn't really appeal to me either. Although being on a cruise ship that big, whether you are on water or land, you can't really tell unless the sea is rough. You would probably spend more time not looking at the ocean. (It would seem to be boring to me to see the same ocean for days.)

I'm reminded of pictures of this funny place:
