Getting into Gulf and especially LA and surrounding states would be absolutely a tragedy. 'Those poor, poor people. A year like this will make many think about moving to higher ground...inland...not near a river plain. Most of those houses and businesses are complete and total losses.
I bet only a fraction of those involved even have flood insurance and we know there is a limit even what that will pay. Take the money if you get any, and start over somewhere else...might be the best advice.
So, so sad.

Pages 5, 6, and 7 on this manual are interesting (not sure if latest edition). You can see that 60in in a house is total destruction. The charts show flood and non-flood ratings. When Red Cross does the first disaster assessment...it is done from the outside...sometimes by boat and scored by the high water mark on the outside of the house. Then later...more detailed assessments are made.
