welcome to 21st century

Yes indeed.

Well said.

I'm a professional writer. I haven't published a novel... I get paid for writing content, editing other people's work and making it more fluid as most shrinks go way over most people's head when discussing their methods. I've done my share of writing and gotten paid for it.

I've maintained a blog for years .. one that in the beginning was more like an online diary that only a few read. I have a large audience when there is a storm on the map and I am more careful now to keep it serious.

During Hurricane Katrina I was offline, my son in NY called (phone worked) and told me Michelle Malkin was linking to my blog and it hadn't been updated. I asked him.. "who's Michelle Malkin?" Obviously it was important so I dictated a post for him to post.

I've been invited to private programs at NHC, ones where media was  not invited. I've given lectures on South Florida History and Hurricane History. I was the Keynote speaker at an Insurance Convention in Nola, was fun... really plus getting to know the people who go in after the hurricane. Learned some things..

I've taken classeS in meteorology and oceanography as well as International Law where every case had some weather related issue. Tuna fleets during El Nino in South American, a case in the North Sea.. a ship went down in a bad storm, etc, etc.

Yet because I don't have a degree in meteorology I'm looked at by many as merely a "weather enthusiast" and hate the term "weather geek" as sorry but I don't think we are...

My brother and kids have met weather girls on some channels in Miami in the process of getting their masters from MSU online..Some channels reimburse each are different. Most have degrees in communications and say "they always  liked weather" but after 5 minutes where they talked on their new baby, their new house and the new news anchor rather than a developing tropical system it turned out they were pretty much a nice kid, cute face, eye candy on the nightly news behind the BIG MET. Not saying ALL but most fit that. They reach out to the Miami market and mostly tweet "coming up at 11 we have nice videos of sunset" ...  yet ironically more people read my blog from all across the world. Some are in the armed forces from Miami or NC .. or their parents live in Miami but they live in Germany, Ukraine (really) or midwest somewhere. They don't get the big Miami met on the nightly news and they read me before and trust me.

See in the end it comes down to TRUST

I had no one paying for a Masters Degree in anything while raising my children on my own without child support .. once in a blue moon. I don't sell anything or ask for donations. Yet am treated by a few who don't know me, or care to find out think I must be hawking hurricanes for money online ???  And Jim can attest to how hard it is to upkeep a site after 3 years of crap tropical storms..

Trust... local met in NC is almost always wrong and the NWS has every day their forecast discussion highlighted in red as it was changed........

If Jim says there will be a Florida landfall I'm pretty sure people listening to him will run out to Publix shopping. He's not a hype a hurricane person.

Marshall Shepherd doesn't know me... we run in different circles or did.

Sometimes he's good, points out things and other times he nonstop pushes his own agenda. IE Brown Water whatever. It's an old theory it never had a trendy name. Betsy barely lost a beat over the Glades and Florida Bay and may have intensified a drop. It was spoken about by Bob Weaver. By the way Bob Weaver didn't originally have a degree in meteorology.

And the AMA seal isn't reliant upon a doctorate degree in meteorology nor high ratings.

So... get over it.

This is the 21st century. I'd HATE to work for the NHC and have to read thru emails by every 15 year old reading models on his smart phone complaining on every move the NHC makes.  Got a news alert... phones are nice but u need data from dropsondes and Gulfstream Jet etc... and someone with wisdom and knowledge to put it together.

Welcome to the 21st century.

I've personally met more NHC Directors than I can count and mean sat, talked, etc... not a fast photo op on some publicity day. Listened to people talk on things I'll never say. I'm not a weather enthusiast ..but I am enthusiastic about weather.

Am I a forecaster? I'd say I am a Amateur one but then again I've been paid for my work on Canes so maybe quasi professional without a degree. Truth is I don't care..

I write.
I love hurricanes.
I love weather.
I love being able to talk about weather and hurricanes.

Deal with it.

I don't need no Internet Police...

Love ya all.

Jim you're great!
... not the Great One lol but GREAT ;)
