So Much Energy

It might be disorganized but no one can say that 99L ain't packin' a lot of energy in that gyre. 2 circulations at the low levels, possibly 2 at the mid, and over 1,000 km of cloud and percolating convection.

If this bad boy was plopped over the W Carib w/ half the shear, or even where it is w/ half the shear, there would be a lot of very, very nervous people. Instead, I have the suspicion that, given its current level of disorganization and its forward speed, it might not have time to spin up because that's a lot of energy to get moving and consolidate.

Now, with that said, there's currently a new burst of convection pushing up SE of the dominant LL swirl. If the secondary swirl over Hispaniola collapses and this thing can sustain convection/transfer excess energy and vorticity to the swirl N/NW of PR, we might have something here.

PS. the tropics have been frustrating to watch since the end of 2008, hence why I really haven't posted in a few years. That, and I miss JAC and his contributions.
