"Potential" ? Now wait a minute.
I like the idea of having warnings posted early by calling a system "potential", HOWEVER, there's one big problem with that.
What if the GOM system suddenly becomes a tropical depression. You would now have a TD2 and a potential TD2 - each referring to DIFFERENT storms. This "potential" thing could become very confusing and a sticky situation for the NHC.
