Air Force sonde at 2:40pm EDT: 944mb, 6 knots of surface wind
Posted by Chris in Tampa on 9/4/2017, 3:07 pm
Also from this pass:

10 second estimated surface winds from SFMR just had 113 knots (130.0 mph) twice in a row. One was noted as suspect, but in the NE eyewall. (HDOB messages have data every 30 seconds, but SFMR is 10 second average) But NHC usually uses that for intensity, assuming higher winds exist and that they might be 1 minute sustained.

30 second flight level: 117 knots (134.6 mph)
10 second flight level: 121 knots (139.2 mph)

Going out shopping, will be back later.

Also, NHC's 2pm EDT best track is now 130mph, making it a category 4 hurricane. Not technically official until NHC puts it in an advisory though. Best track data is subject to change.
