Re: Why I Believe Tampa Bay is Now in Dire Trouble

A friend called me today saying Hillsborough County had issued a mandatory evacuation. I hadn't heard that and saw the mayor of Tampa in a press conference talking about evacuations. I looked online and couldn't find the info yet and didn't think it mattered too much, I knew it was a matter of time. I figured they were just getting ready to post more. Being really busy, I haven't had time to look into it again. Only earlier tonight, after two emergency calls went out to my phone on Friday, I realize there is no mandatory evacuation for Hillsborough County. Tampa ordered it for zone "A". (I'm about 1,000 feet from Tampa.) The calls were about voluntary evacuations for special-needs residents and the second was about when shelters opened. The one tonight I thought would tell me more about what I thought was a mandatory evacuation. So, Hillsborough County has not ordered any mandatory evacuation for zone "A". Not even a voluntary evacuation! This is ridiculous. What are they waiting for? I would usually tell people to evacuate when officials tell you to. Well, sometimes you really, really shouldn't wait for that.

What are they waiting for?

And why was every local station playing soap operas, or whatever else, for hours this afternoon instead of hurricane coverage? Me and my dad were talking about how weird it is that even during the news you get commercials for various things, like sales you shouldn't miss. Just a weird time here. I think a lot of people sense the urgency, but some of it really is due to Harvey. But I don't think some of those who communicate to the Tampa Bay region have done enough regarding this storm. Are they waiting for a track showing landfall north of Tampa Bay? The risk for this region has gone up considerably, but Hillsborough County seems to be a few days behind. At least Tampa had some sense. A county two counties north of me (Hernando) ordered a mandatory evacuation for two zones. But Hillsborough County, among the most dangerous areas for storm surge, is waiting to make a call. Well, it's early Saturday now as of posting this. By Sunday afternoon we should have tropical storm force winds and at some point that night hurricane force winds. After the massive evacuations for this storm, they're waiting until the day before? Dangerous incompetence.
