Its southern bands headed north are getting pulled over 3,000 foot Escambray mountains that cover about half the island in that portion of Cuba, mountains 50 miles wide there,these are not 125 foot high Islands it is going over right now. Add to the fact that the wind slows down even hitting the land of south Florida where the highest point in 50 feet what do you think that would do to the southern flank of that storm.
This is a rake, not a quick crossover, and those winds on the south are slower causing feeding issues. This shows how strong Irma is just by the fact it has not completely been ripped to a CAT 1 already. Do not under estimate what can happen once she hits that gulf stream with her southern flank having access to water.
This storm is not going to fall apart and not be an issue. |
