What TWC is trying to do is warn people on SE coast of Florida this will not be a non event for us. All the local stations here are emphasizing that according to NHC we are forecast to have hurricane force winds here.  They do not want people thinking this is a west coast event only and people be going out and about or stop final preparations.

Since Wilma most of the storms have ducked us at the last minute and we barely get TS force winds. Those who have lived here for decades know what these can do but there are a lot of people who have moved here since Wilma and do not have any idea ( Palm Beach County has grown by 220 thousand people since WILMA). If you only knew how many new people to the area believe that duct tape over windows works to protect your house, it is maddening.

Look at west coast of Florida in regards to Hurricane Charlie which was only 12 years after Andrew. There were a lot of business still open and people working in Lee and Charlotte county because it was going to go by them to hit Tampa. I hope they keep talking up the impact, even though a west coast storm, that it will have on the east coast. Houston had the problem of not believing that a storm to there south could flood them out even though it was harped on repeatedly. So keep talking TWC there is always a few potential Darwin award winners out there.
