For general information-- there have been youtube of how to charge your cell phone using a 9 volt square type battery and the spring from a ball point pen. I sure have stored that info-- if we get caught without power and back up.
Post Irma-- we told the people next door in Keys who (CRAZY!) rode it out -- that we had hand cranked radio that also charged phones in our place. But they weren't able to find it. :((
They have received supplies now Big Pine Key is open-- so have a generator and some things. Sounds additionally fool hardy-- but didn't have a battery radio--EEK! So it was delivered yesterday.
The tiny local radio station US1-- 101.4 was broadcasting right through the storm-- and 12 hours a day with info from officials. And things like where they were delivering gas to the island-- vital info.
SO-- really important to have batteries and radio.
that station is simulcasting again -- if you want to tune in. Google it or an app like Tunein Radio. It's a real life line for people there!
