thank you Spin_Doctor, that was good to read - so many people helping in so many ways

It brought back a memory, from when our last home flooded the 1st time & our kids were really little.  There were ppl in their big wheeled trucks "sight-seeing" & going by our home really fast, making wakes that lapped water over our front door entrance - I swore under my breath at them each time they came by.  Then a guy on a huge jet ski came by, really slow, looking at each house as he went.  I was standing in our front doorway with two little kids hanging on to my legs & he stopped, drove his jet ski up our driveway & asked if we wanted to evacuate.  I sobbed & nodded yes, he took me & our 2 little kids to dry ground, my husband following later, wading through the floodwaters.  He dropped us off & went right back in, looking for more ppl to help

Several months later I recognized him, standing in line at the grocery store, introduced myself & thanked him, told him how much his help & kindness meant & how much he was appreciated.  He said he was a volunteer with our local fire dept/rescue, not paid, but that's what they do.  We both had tears.  It's a good reminder for me that we need to be thankful for those who are helping - there really are so many of them.
