Max winds Irma and Maria

I have heard people saying that damage in Puerto Rico was because they were unprepared. They are using as an example the damage Irma did in Florida versus Maria in Puerto Rico.

Looking at what wind maps I have seen it appears no where in Florida had gust as high as the sustained winds across the entire Island of Puerto Rico. The closest was Big Pine Key and maybe Marco island and both of those places got toasted.

Does anyone have the detailed wind fields on these storms. I am hearing people say this kind of damage would not have happened in the mainland and it is all Puerto Rico fault. I agree that they might not have been as prepared as they should have  been. However I also think a lot of people here in Florida think we went through the same winds in Irma as Puerto Rico did in Maria.
