Re: CEO of AccuWeather nominated to head NOAA

This really does scare me. Not only qualifications, but I fear we might be back to seeing a move to try to eliminate the National Weather Service as a government entity and instead privatizing it. That would be an utter disaster and AccuWeather would love that. I think they've wanted that for a long time.

Can you imagine the corners that would be cut if it were run like a business? I have zero doubt more lives would be lost.

With the history of AccuWeather and the NWS, I have to assume that this is something that might be considered again when picking the CEO of AccuWeather. Each administration pick is very calculated and that's what I would guess is the ulterior motive here.

Even without privatizing it, getting back to qualifications, you are going to see someone running the NWS like a business which is likely going to reduce its effectiveness. They already need more people and I doubt someone like this will fully staff the agency with qualified people. I wonder how much power he'll have to outsource some things too. I would expect some kind of dismantling, beyond just climate science which is already in the crosshairs.
