Re: Freezing at Tampa's airport this morning (Thursday, Jan. 18th)

It got down to 29 and was 29 for three hourly readings. It froze for at least 4 hours, perhaps around 5 hours.

I live about a mile west of Tampa International Airport, on a canal just off Tampa Bay. My bird bath froze with about a quarter inch of ice. I can't remember if I had a birdbath 8 years ago for the last freeze. I didn't expect the water to freeze.

Based on the damage in my yard, and the frozen bird bath, we definitely froze just as significantly as the airport. Sometimes that isn't the case, but it was this time.

I had to wait for a bird to leave before seeing if the bird bath was frozen:

It was so cold this morning that a leaking water truck in a construction zone caused ice to form and cause an accident when a car hit the black ice.

"One worker inspecting the ice slipped and fell as cars passed by."

"At one point, crews had to shut down both southbound lanes to remove the ice with chisels and salt. At the 8 a.m. hour, one lane was open to traffic."
