They still have issues - O/T

I still can't get the HurricaneCity server to connect to NOAA's NHC FTP server. If it doesn't work by next week I'll have to continue looking into it. The connection times out. On Wednesday, NOAA had posted this:

STATUS UPDATE TO WEATHER.GOV SERVICES AND LEGACY NIDS WEB FARMS...

NCOs Web Services Team added additional servers to the Legacy
NIDS web farms in Kansas City, MO and Silver Spring, MD yesterday
afternoon. They also worked with NCOs Software Development Team
to correct a problem with products getting delayed at the NIDS
web farm in Silver Spring. These changes were made by 2200Z Sep
17, and they have improved the stability and performance of
weather.gov web sites and services.

NCO will continue to closely monitor weather.gov. If web services
remains stable, they will not be re-balanced back to their ideal
state until Critical Weather Day has ended.
NCO is also working
towards providing a more detailed explanation and root cause of
the recent web issues. Please report any additional problems with
weather.gov web sites to Tech Control at toc.nwstgnoaa.gov or
301-713-0902.

I am assuming that things aren't back to normal yet and that maybe once they are I won't have issues connecting. I still can't run a trace route back to their site.

If I type this into a command prompt in Windows:

tracert ftp.nhc.noaa.gov

The connection times out.

I can connect to some other parts of NOAA though using that.

However, I just noticed something that is also very broken. My plan was to develop my model system to also check this folder as a fail safe:

https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/ATCF/NHC/?C=M;O=D

It's not something I can do right now, it will be months before I might be able to incorporate it into a larger update to my model system for early next year. But I just noticed that it is broken too. It hasn't updated since September 11th. Going by that system, Humberto, Imelda and Jerry haven't formed yet. (and stuff in the East Pacific) I might still add it though as an option, as when it does work it does offer a backup to connecting to the NHC's server. Though it's all at NOAA, so sometimes everything can have an issue.

Eventually I am going to download JTWC data from there for worldwide storms and that part is actually currently working:

https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/ATCF/JTWC/?C=M;O=D

For now HurricaneCity's model and recon systems get the data from my site, but if my site has an issue, then the system would fail at HC too. I like it when there can be a fully independent mirror so that there isn't a single point of failure for both.
