Aqua, someone else will surely answer your question as to what happens if a storm actually dissipates and then regenerates. Cristobal is not predicted to completely dissipate, but rather to temporarily weaken and be downgraded to a tropical depression by Thursday evening. By Friday evening it's anticipated to be back over water and re-intensifying to a tropical storm. Name will remain the same, of course.

I hope it remains no greater than a tropical storm by landfall, but today's 10 a.m. Central Time Discussion seems to be hedging a little, saying (highlight by me):

"...the global models show increased southwesterly
shear influencing the cyclone over the northern Gulf of Mexico and
this should limit intensification. The official intensity forecast
is similar to the latest LGEM and HCCA guidance. However, there is
significant uncertainty as to how strong a cyclone we will be
dealing with near the northern Gulf coast this weekend.
