Those are larger than the sondes they drop to measure wind. That video is of an AXBT (airborne expendable bathythermograph) which measures water temperature at various depths when it drops a probe into the water. (About: https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/HRD-P3_exp.html) My site doesn't currently have Air Force AXBT data.
