that article is older, it references the "wind map" http://hint.fm/wind/ - remember when it was new? now we take a lot of fantastic tools for granted, like earth https://earth.nullschool.net/ and satellites galore

I still read the Twitter feed of "earth"'s creator https://twitter.com/cambecc He's originally from Cedar Rapids, which was just devastated by a derecho. My sister living not far from there was lucky, winds less than 80 mph & had power back in just over 3 days, no house damage, just limbs on trees lost. It was a crazy storm, Iowa got nailed & hardly a peep in the news. I kidded her that she needed a hurricane prep kit in Iowa more than I did in Texas
