I didn't realize until years later that there was a hurricane around at that time. I also didn't realize it helped remove the toxic smoke out to sea. I remember the satellite imagery of the storm and the smoke plume, but didn't think that had it not been there it might have traveled elsewhere. That could have been even more disastrous than it already was since we now know how toxic it really was to first responders who have sadly died in the many years since due to exposure to it. They were close to it, for a long period of time, but that initial smoke plume might have been even more significantly toxic, I don't know.

It's estimated that more people have died from illnesses related to the attacks than those that died that day.
