So why would a very quiet period of sun spots be followed by an extremely quiet Atlantic season?

Go to spaceweather.com

Notice that when there is sun spot activity initially xray activity rises.  UV/Xray light splits O2 in the atmosphere.  It's not so much about the energy of this high frequency light, but its ability to create conductive pathways and free electrical particles in the upper atmosphere to be available for capacitive couplings.

Solar winds seem to do the opposite to existing couplings, seems to trigger, later, couplings elsewhere. By observation and from easternuswx, Jim Hughes has noticed that 500 km/second to be a threashold speed of the solar winds when the begin to influence whether a rapid intensification will occur or not.

People, BTW, have difficulty communicating out the door.  When there are controversial ideas, it gets magnefied 1,000 times.  But in the end, you simply have to ask--what are words for?
