Wind Shear and Weak Systems: A Question

Since the 80-81-degree SSTs under and ahead of 97L will keep it a relatively weak system as it nears and passes over the Winwards, might it be more likely to survive any shear it encounters in the short term because it will not be stacked as high up into the atmosphere?
