From the African side the thunderstorm right on the coast is a very proximate source of displacement currents and decreases the potential differences over our twin storms. In general thinking about strength of static fields it's all about the inverse of the distance squared. So when you get a thunderstorm that big and that close to the coast where it is a powering sournce and not a power taking storm, it tends to enhance intensity. This is by YEARS of observation. You don't have to trust my eyes, but take it for what it is worth as you observe similar phenomenon. The SOI index BTW has risen to over 5 positive, which is much more indicative of a nuetral or La Nina state of ENSO. |
