Good morning Bobbi. These troughs don't have a great surface reflection here in the South but they do keep us from broiling to death. You can think of them as "heat wave blockers" and they've done an excellent job this summer - as we've had only one or two very brief hot spells the entire summer; something I've never seen before. The "trough" is basically up in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere - that's why you don't much "feel" it.

Assuming we get back to normal next year, you're gonna feel some real heat then; he-he.
