Entering mid-season---African Coast depositing waves of low pressure into Atlantic

Yellow circle is up, and another wave looks to be not far behind over Africa. Question for experts????? The El Nino phenomenon is mainly known for producing westerly upper level winds across the Atlantic which inhibit tropical development, correct?? Well, what about the strength and amplitude of waves coming off the African Coast? Is there a correlation between El Nino and waves of less amplitude? Because, even with contrary winds, pronounced wave activity seems to have a way of inducing cyclogenesis. Just wondering? So far this year, I don't think we've seen the type of high amplitude waves which we have on occasion seen come off Africa in the past. But we are now entering prime time.
