We don't even have a storm but that mess in the gulf is already pushing water in. The freshwater river I live on in Louisiana is flowing backwards and running 3 feet above sea level right now. Before we had such massive coastal erosion, we never had saltwater push in so far unless a strong storm was in the gulf. Now just a mass of unorganized thunderstorms offshore is all that is needed to push gulf water in. That means more saltwater in the estuary and more loss of trees and freshwater marsh. A few boat docks are starting to go under and there is a heavy tropical feel to the air. It is just a matter of time till something spins out of this mess, even if it is just a TD or TS. |
