Its a race now---Ida against the oncoming trough

Would not say this is a cut and dry forecast. November storms can be notoriously unpredictable. Ida has thrown forecasters a couple of curve balls already. Its stronger than expected, and it is forecast move further west and north in the Gulf then previously expected. Sat loop shows trough in the central plains, with a weak low over Texas. I'm just not willing to say at this point that Ida will begin moving North on schedule. And after that there is the projected NNE movement. I think the landfall around Mobile-Pensacola is just too far east at this point. I think this storm will have substantial effects upon the La and Miss Coasts and we might hear the alarms begin to sound tomorrow. Here is the look at the not too impressive oncoming trough and Ida now beginning to make her move in the Gulf. http://www.goes.noaa.gov/GSSLOOPS/ecwv.html |
