331 AM EST FRI JAN 22 2010

VALID 12Z FRI JAN 22 2010 - 00Z SUN JAN 24 2010

THE LARGE... HIGHLY ANOMALOUS MID-UPPER LEVEL TROUGH ALONG THE
WEST COAST WHICH HAS BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LATEST ROUND IN
FLOODING RAINS AND EVEN SEVERE WEATHER ACROSS CALIFORNIA IS
FORECAST TO MOVE EAST INTO THE WEEKEND. PLENTY OF MOISTURE JUST
AHEAD OF A STRONG COLD FRONT... CURRENTLY PUSHING ACROSS THE
SOUTHWEST... WILL MOVE INTO THE SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL ROCKIES EARLY
TODAY AND THE PLAINS TONIGHT. EXPECT HEAVY RAIN AND HIGHER
ELEVATION SNOW TO IMPACT ARIZONA INTO NEW MEXICO TODAY WITH ONE TO
TWO FEET OF NEW SNOW ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE FOR THE MOGOLLON RIM
THROUGH TONIGHT. COLD AIR BEHIND THE FRONT WILL SUPPORT ADDITIONAL
HEAVY SNOW INTO THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN ROCKIES AS WELL AS
PORTIONS OF THE WASATCH OF UTAH. RAINFALL INTENSITY ALONG THE WEST
COAST SHOULD DIMINISH THROUGHOUT THE DAY TODAY AS THE UPPER TROUGH
AND BEST MOISTURE MOVE EAST.

ONCE THE STORM SYSTEM REACHES THE PLAINS... LOW LEVEL SOUTHERLY
FLOW AND MOISTURE ADVECTION WILL INCREASE FROM TEXAS TO THE
DAKOTAS BRINGING A VARIETY OF WEATHER TO THE REGION. A WINTRY MIX
OF SNOW...SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED WHERE LOW LEVEL
TEMPERATURES WILL STAY COLD ACROSS THE NORTH CENTRAL U.S. WITH
PERHAPS A SIGNIFICANT ICE STORM FOR THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY
STARTING TONIGHT. RAIN AND MAYBE A THUNDERSTORM WILL BE SEEN
FARTHER SOUTH FROM EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE CENTRAL PLAINS INTO THE
CENTRAL AND LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AS GULF MOISTURE IS DRAWN
NORTHWARD. TEMPERATURES WILL WARM NICELY FOR LATE JANUARY AHEAD OF
THE COLD FRONT ACROSS THE SOUTH WHERE HIGHS WELL INTO THE 60S AND
70S ARE EXPECTED TODAY AND SATURDAY. WINDS ARE ALSO EXPECTED TO
INCREASE TODAY ACROSS THE PLAINS AS THE MAIN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE
OVER THE WEST REDEVELOPS OVER THE CENTRAL PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON.

OVER THE EAST... AS LOW PRESSURE STRENGTHENS OFF THE MID ATLANTIC
COAST... IT WILL DRAG A COLD FRONT INTO THE WESTERN ATLANTIC
DURING THE DAY TODAY... BRINGING AN END TO THE MOSTLY LIGHT
REMAINING PRECIPITATION OVER THE MID ATLANTIC AND SOUTHEAST.
ADDITIONAL MINOR SNOW AND/OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED OVER
EASTERN WEST VIRGINIA INTO NORTHWESTERN VIRGINIA BEFORE MID
AFTERNOON TODAY... WHEN HIGH PRESSURE WILL BEGIN TO NOSE IN FROM
THE NORTH BRINGING CLEARING SKIES FOR TONIGHT. CLOUDS ARE EXPECTED
TO INCREASE AGAIN ON SATURDAY AS THE STORM SYSTEM FROM THE PLAINS
BEGINS TO APPROACH.
