Jim, it's true that timely coverage of the current extent and direction of the flow is greatly lacking. I think it's just too big, the weather conditions on the Gulf too poor -- and then there's the fact that nobody has a lot of experience with this kind of situation.
That said, LawKat's right that local news in the area is on top of things pretty well. Our local paper's website, www.pnj.com, has lots of coverage. Their interactive maps aren't so hot, but there's a pretty good one the NY Times has; unfortunately, it only shows predicted, rather than actual, location for the current date, but it beats a zero:

FLASH: The PNJ just posted an AP story about an hour ago that sounds like the first good news we've heard in days. I'm afraid to put too much stock in it, but here ya go:
