As you mention, CX, upper-level support is really the deciding factor in how active a season we'll see, not SSTs. I am skeptical of the alarmist headlines that have been popping up recently about hot SSTs. Wind shear in the past few seasons has been absolutely brutal. To me wind shear will prove to be the far more significant factor in this year's hurricane season. If the upper levels let up with these SSTs we're in for a deadly season. If not, I don't care if the entire basin is hotter than the surface of the sun, it means nothing.
