that discussed covering the Gulf and Carribean with a sheen of oil in the path of an oncoming hurricane?  It was a couple of years ago.  I rembered reading this study but can't find it now.

Anyway, if this one buoy is not incorrect, that is nearest to the spill, it is registering 70.4 degrees SST, which is 6-7 degrees cooler than other buoys in the vicinity.  Might be just  a cold eddy, or maybe oil really does dampen water temps.

On the flip side though, that oil has been there for 3 weeks now.  For oil to slow or lower SSTs in front of an approaching hurricane, you would have to know (if this current lowered reading and oil presence is true) 3 weeks in advance the exact path of a hurricane.

Not happening.
