What I have noticed so far this year, is the unusual UL conditions in the mid-Atlantic ITCZ.

There seems to be a well established ridge between South America and Africa.

Anti-cyclones are riding the waves and there is a persistant poleward outflow channel.

This could be due in part to the abnormal high SST's in the region and also the lack of an Atlantic Walker cell due to diminishing El Nino.

At this point the surface trough is still below 10N.

Watch out when the trough starts its north-ward progression in the next few weeks.
