Thats it Alligator---Worst case on many levels

What I'm thinking is that this looks to be a very active Cape Verde season. And I don't really expect it to be like 2005 where most storms originated but did not fully develop in the far reaches of the tropical Atlantic. I think this year (especially with the warm SST's) we can look for an active and traditional type of Cape Verde with storms threatening the US from the deep tropical Atlantic. In that case I can envision a scenario where the Bermuda High catches hold of one of these whoppers pushing it toward S or Central Fl (I know Jimw picked Vero Beach) but I think S Fl Miami-Ft.Lauderdale is the better bet). In that case you might look for a crossover into the Gulf with a second landfall somewhere very near the central Gulf Coast (Al-SE La). This would bring about two major landfalls and further complicate the environmental catastrophe. Of course no one knows. But I see this type of scenario, given the prevailing environmental factors, as a real possibility this year. |
