Re: Hurricane wind-abatement system like a bullet-proof vest for a home

This has been around for a while but frankly I think these are all gimmiks. The story makes no mention of how to attach it  or if you need a gap between the window & screen. The force of the wind I am sure can break any ropes that tie it down & what if the thing it is tied to breaks?Another thing that annoys me are these so called "cat 5 resistant" impact windows. The test is one 2x4 at 75mph, when a cat 5 hits there will be many & the window will still crack & need to be replaced and they are not cheap. These products IMO are frauds & are untested in true hurricane conditions as controlled test are nothing like the real thing. Someone could have one of these screens in 60 to 70mph winds & say "see it works" when in reality if they did not have the screen the window probably would not  have broke anyways unless a 2x4 hits it dead on. The hurricane conferences are full of these "hurricane proof" products, but I still say the only true way to protect your home is with shutters &  I am talking heavy duty ones. In Andrew many shutters had bullet holes in them from the shrapnel . I have the heavy duty  accordian shutters that take 10 min to shut them all & I feel safe.
