Interesting about the mats.
I understand about the uneven cut the shears made, and I'm not talking about reconnecting at that spot, Tiny. I'm talking about the flanged connection on the BOP that sits BELOW that cut in the riser. If the flange bolts were cut and the flanges separated, that entire section of riser, including the uneven cut area, could be ditched entirely, and a brand new flanged riser bolted on, with no oil escaping -- everything just going straight up to the ship(s). This, again, is what Admiral Allen previously stated was a possible plan.
It's something we'd all love to see but I'm thinking maybe it was determined not to be feasible due to the potential increased pressures on the substructure, which some now fear may be compromised. Don't know, of course -- am merely speculating -- because they aren't telling us what happened to the flanged connection idea.
