I can't be dispassionate at the moment, so I'll say Bret '99 territory, strong Cat 2. Gets more personal for me, my family and business the further N and E it goes, on into LA. Speaking completely selfishly, that damn cone moves to the R much more and my surgery could be postponed. I'm in no position to wait, evacuate, or hunker down (I do trust my structure; everyone up here will be running around w/their hair on fire, esp post-Ike. We're still seeing the "sue your insurer" ads.)
I don't really want to contemplate a "perfect strike" where Ike was a near miss. But contemplate we must. Surge from a major plowing through Refinery Row into downtown Houston? Pipelines that lead from here all over the US disrupted? Corpus has plenty of refineries and petrochem in their neighborhood, too. . . Talk about cleanup. |
