Jack ruby,
Alex is just waiting for the trough to pull, weak steering flow. As I stated in my post a few days ago, the storm had passed the base of the trough axis while approaching Belize on Saturday. There's no question, this would had been a central gulf or fl panhandle storm, if Alex was moving towards the channel on Saturday.
Like your style man, you call it as you see it. I forecasted a central mex landfall a few days ago south Lapesca as a 80-90mph cane, looks like might be alittle north just south of Brownsville. Will see.
Per my discussion with JAC a few hours ago, N-NW shear and dry mid level flow from Mexico is hampering intensification as the upper low is not the only culprit, the large anti-cyclone is well west of the system and causing shear. Also the vorticity is very strong and co-located. The large radius will will delay steady strengthening, but a more gradual trend. Keep an eye on the upper high, as this is the most important piece. |
