Yeah, I wondered about that. The trough is enhanced by the tremendous Alex outflow boundary along the margin of the upper high which gave such positive conditions for Alex in the Gulf. The convective debris, as you say, leftover from Alex is considerable there along this boundary. Its right over Tiny and the BP oil operation too. All along the Gulf coast cleanup operations were expected to be hampered for the next couple of days anyway from high surf and the convective debris left over from Alex, and now this. It wouldn't be the first time that we see a secondary or follow up system emerge from the remnants of a first system. If it was simply the trough in the Gulf, the odds would be against spin up (I think). But add the energy of the convective debris left over from Alex and --Houston we may have a problem.
