TROPICAL DEPRESSION ALEX DISCUSSION NUMBER 26 NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL AL012010 1000 PM CDT THU JUL 01 2010
ALEX HAS MOVED OVER THE RUGGED TERRAIN OF CENTRAL MEXICO AT ELEVATIONS BETWEEN 5000 AND 8000 FEET...AND SATELLITE IMAGERY AND SURFACE OBSERVATIONS SUGGEST THAT A WELL-DEFINED CENTER OF CIRCULATION NO LONGER EXISTS. IN ADDITION...THE ONLY DEEP CONVECTION LEFT IN THE VICINITY OF ALEX IS ASSOCIATED WITH UPSLOPE FLOW WELL TO THE EAST ALONG THE SIERRA MADRE ORIENTAL MOUNTAINS. ALEX HAS THEREFORE DISSIPATED...AND THIS WILL BE THE LAST ADVISORY ON THIS SYSTEM. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE ESTIMATED TO BE AROUND 25 KT...BASED ON THE LATEST OBSERVATION AT ZACATECAS MEXICO.
MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANTS OF ALEX WILL CONTINUE TO POSE A HEAVY RAINFALL THREAT OVER PORTIONS OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL MEXICO...AS WELL AS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS OF THE UNITED STATES...OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. FOR THE UNITED STATES...PLEASE REFER TO PRODUCTS ISSUED BY THE HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL PREDICTION CENTER AND LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICES FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
FORECAST POSITIONS AND MAX WINDS
INITIAL 02/0300Z 23.3N 102.4W 25 KT...POST-TROP/REMNT LOW 12HR VT 02/1200Z...DISSIPATED
