Re: TAR blob/mat size of a school bus near Long Beach/Pass Christian MS

My husband's parents live in Pass Christian, right across from the beach, and we visited them for the fourth of july holiday.  My husband went down to the beach on Saturday and brought back a tar ball to show everyone.  He scooped up the sand underneath the ball so he wasn't actually touching the oil ball.  However, when he was showing the family the ball, some of the oil did get on his hands. He immediately washed his hands.  On Monday night he noticed that his right hand was very red and looked like it had been burned.  We were trying to figure out what he might have done to his hand...did he burn it while cooking, did he come into contact with some household chemicals....?  We couldn't think of anything that may have caused such a reaction.  The next day his fingers were red and swollen and he had a huge blister on one of his fingers--about the size of his entire finger.  I know this is gross...but we drained the blister and the next day it was puffed up again.  At that point, we remembered that some of the oil had gotten on his hand.  We did some research online and read that the disbursement being used by BP contains a neuro-toxin that can cause blistering of the skin, as well as other very severe health problems.  At any rate, common sense certainly dictates that people not touch the tar balls, but I know people are curious ---like my silly husband.    Anyway, I just wanted to share this story with yall so those of you on the gulf coast are carfeful while walking on the beaches or swimming in the water.
