Quiet time reflection ...

I always find myself, when thinking of storms, drawn back to the doomsday New Orleans NWS Office statement given on August 28, 2005.

First, it always sends chills up and down my spine.  I remember reading that and thinking, we are all going to be leveled to oblivion.

But secondly, and in tons of hindsight, we all get to see just a bit of prophecy (verification) in those chilling words:

Livestock exposed will die -- Jefferson, St. Tammany and Plaquemines Parish found dead cattle and chickens the next day.

Water will be unusable -- Water in most of South Mississippi and SE Louisiana remained either out or subject to extreme boil precautions for weeks.

Structures will collapse or fail -- More than 50,000 structures either disappeared, collapsed or were rendered uninhabitable.

Power out for weeks or months ---  YES, from Louisiana to Florida Panhandle.

Death -- We know the answer.

It's just that small voice in your head that says, "oh yes, it can happen, and it CAN happen to you."

I never knew real fear until I watched my neighbor's house be destroyed in front of my eyes in broad daylight on August 29, 2005.
