A large tropical wave was located a few hundred miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. The wave has a large circulation per visible sat images, which show a large rotation of strato-cu. Although the wave is under an area of modest shear which of favor slow development, the SST are marginal.
Track and development: The wave is moving west @ 15-20mph and this general motion should continue for quite sometime, as the sub-tropical ridge should remain north of the system during this period. The lastest GFS 18z runs shows an anticyclone following the disturbance throughout it's track, this combined with increasing SST's, decreasing wind shear, reduction in SAL and a strong 850, 700 and 500mb vorticity should generate convection further west leading to gradual development of a tropical cyclone.
