If this is about stopping offshore drilling then I agree with them because that's bogus. We can't afford to just stop to make people "feel good". What *needs* to be done is ensure that all ongoing offshore drilling is up to *the best safety standards possible*, and go from there. Just stopping is not gonna solve a damn thing.
We can't change into a new energy overnight, obviously, the problem without even AGW incorporated into the discussion is that at some point, in the next century, we are going to have MAJOR energy problems and right now, there doesn't seem to be a hell of a lot going on, especially when theres people petitioning clean energy because they dont want to see a wind farm from their home. (I understand if they're too close to a community due to the sound...) but in the end, theres not enough being done to move human civilization into sustainablility for the future.
At the same point, we can't continue to dig at extreme depths with no safehold projects in place. It's ABSOLTUELY CLEAR that this wasn't even planned for untill it happened and everyone was standing around scratching their heads. They couldn't stop a spill 30 years ago at 250 feet and they still couldn't when they reached a mile in depth. THAT is the problem. We can't afford to just frantically extract oil because the eoncomy is bad, because as we have seen, a spill is BAD for economy as well. How about not scrapping safety procedures and plan funding within companies. They end up spending more in the long run., It's illogical and stupid. |
