Area of convection in Gulf growing much larger now

The more I look at this, the more I think we may have a growing problem on our hands for the north central Gulf. Huge area of energy now along the SE quadrant of the ULL from which a burgeoning tropical system might draw upon. In fact, the large area of convection leads me to believe that shear in this area is not nearly as effective as it was in the ULL which dominated Bonnie. Every system is different, and while I still think a hurricane is unlikely, I would not be surprised to see a potent tropical or sub-tropical system in the Gulf shortly. I think the odds of it being tropical or becoming tropical are also growing (witness the consolidation of convection in the Southern Gulf). http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/gmex/flash-rb.html |
