When the models show a storm west, after moving it north or northwest; it means that enough upper level ridging has built north of the storm, to steer it back to the west. With Danielle, the GFS puts some ridging north of the storm, but not quite enough to shove it west. So, it kind of sits there and waits for another trough to pick it up and take it off to the northeast. |
