Is "M" a new symbol?

| Please forgive me if this has been discussed before, but for some reason (though I've been looking at the NHC track maps for years) I've never before noticed an "M" designation inside a track symbol circle, only "D", "S", or "H". Is this "M" (Major) symbol new this year? Again, sorry if I'm covering old ground. |
