For formation east of 35W: http://www.hurricanes-blizzards-noreasters.com/35W.html
In years that there were three or more tropical storms that formed east of 35W:
1893 - 3 storms formed east of 35W, 2 made landfall (STORM #6 - BAHAMAS, GA and STORM #9 - BAHAMAS, SOUTH CAROLINA) 1989 - 4 storms formed east of 35W, 1 made landfall (Hugo) 1990 - 3 storms formed east of 35W, 0 made landfall 1998 - 3 storms formed east of 35W, 1 made landfall (Georges) 2004 - 3 storms formed east of 35W, 1 made landfall (Ivan)
80% of the time, 4 out of the 5 years, at least one of the storms eventually made landfall. Some powerful names in that bunch.
So far we have had Danielle and Earl. Will 97L become the third, Fiona? At 2PM EDT it was at 20.1W, so it has oodles of time.
Just some interesting stuff to think about. It may mean nothing, something, or everything, lol. |
