What you are seeing on the IR and WV loops is the upper level outflow from Earl. It doesn't mean that Earl is expanding westward. It's just the normal upper level outflow from an intense hurricane. And with regards to the front; remember a front is a surface feature, which means it's tough to see (without convection firing along it) on an IR loop and darn near impossible on a WV loop. For what it's worth, the surface cold front, as I type this around 1pm Eastern, stretches from Minneapolis to Kansas City to Amarillo. Don't know what the "strange spikes" are. Hope all is well in Charleston. Visited once, and loved it. |
