An image of all the reconnaissance flights into Earl

I thought it would be interesting to show how well Earl was covered by air. Aircraft reconnaissance covered Earl very well. Between tasked NHC flights, NOAA research missions, and other research flights, this is probably one of the best covered storms they have ever done. (Certainly for the amount of distance covered I would think.)
I did not include in the image below any of the research missions that did not release observations to the public. (And there were some of those.)
There was also a lot of places that recon was based out of for this storm.
Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados (NOAA) Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix Island, U.S. Virgin Islands (Air Force) Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi (Air Force) MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida (NOAA) Richmond International Airport in Richmond, Virginia (NOAA) And any additional airports that the other research missions (NASA) came from that are not on the image below.
These are all Air Force and NOAA missions...
All those small icons away from the track over the Atlantic are mostly where the high altitude NOAA G-IV dropped sondes to get data for the models. |
