Good points, as this has been my thoughts about Gaston for several days. Strong easterly shear and large scale subsidence as followed him much longer than expected, as even the NHC has him at 80% several times.
But, as you said the ocean only gets warmer, shear is lessoning and the track appears to be south of DR.
Note: four of the intensity models bring him in 5 days too a borderline Cat 2 - cat- 4. This is quite interesting, as they have been calling this for several days. Forecasting history has shown me that as long as a strong 850mb vortex is present cyclone formation is just a matter of time. |
